REDHEAD REINVENTIONS
WHATS NEW!
Whew...what a summer! I don't know about everyone else but my summer was bustling full of softball, trips to the pool, kids with broken arms, summer birthday parties, adding a new pet to the family and building projects. Which all this means, LESS painting time. Now as it all winds down, it will be back to the painting grind and business as usual. This year I plan to attend more art shows, so be sure to check out the "Events" tab often.
This summer's painting was all about "CUSTOMIZED" works of original art. Firefighter paintings for retired firemen, name signs on antique wooden cabinet doors, and even a specialized painting of someone's beloved pet dogs. I might add this was a first for me! Check out my gallery for all the newly added paintings and signs. Contact me with any questions. Since most of my art are unique, customized finds it's always best to contact me with any questions, comments or instructions.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Angela Millstead was born and raised outside of Fort Scott, Kansas and considers herself a country girl, living in a city world, with a big heart. "Angie Robb" was the name her family and school friends once called her. She is currently residing in Kansas City, Kansas with her husband Mark and her 8 kids. Yes, that is not a typo - 8 kids. Angela is the proud mother of four kids of her own, one son and three daughters and also four step-sons. Her supportive husband Mark, has been a firefighter for over 20 years. They are both engaged in helping out in communities that need it most, most recently when the tornado hit in Joplin. (see story and pics on page 7)
"I have been somewhat an artist all my life and started drawing cartoons while watching them on our TV as a young child. Various occupations have held my interest over the years...waitress, bartender, radio production, Flight Attendant. But no matter what occupation I seem to hold my passion and love for art always brings me back to what I love to do best….painting and design," admits Angela.
ANGELA AND HER UNIQUE ART
Angela feels she possess a unique flair in seeing an object for not what it actually is…but what it could be. Most of her artwork revolves around the concept of taking something ordinary, plain, old, forgotten or vintage, and reinventing it as something else. Something new, beautiful, a work of art. Something to stare at, to marvel, to hang on your wall or set on your shelf. She adds a touch of spice, a bit sass. She blames that on the redheaded side of herself. Which explains her company name “Redhead Reinventions”. Angela is a lone redhead, facing the world armed with a paintbrush and an attitude.
"Most all my pieces are painted on wooden windows, antique containers, vintage cabinet doors, weathered wood, or old barn tin. I paint with acrylic paints and seal all my art to give it protection from weather. Most everything is painted, crackled, antiqued and distressed to give it that worn, one of a kind look, to give it character, it’s own personality. The majority of the materials I paint on are rare finds, so each and every piece of art is an unique original. I freehand all my objects and my lettering as well. Which gives it minor “imperfections”, which really is how most people are. Rare pieces of art, with minor imperfections," explains the redheaded artist.
Angela's art can be classified as a mixture of folk and primitive art, with country undertones. Her husband Mark she blames for the added firefighter twist. However, she is not into just ordinary traditional home décor, wall hangings or sayings. Why not buy something that says what you really mean. How you really feel. "My sayings and signs hold a bit of a shock value I suppose, but they always get a reaction," Angela explains. "Before you know it there is a crowd of people huttled around where my signs are hanging. I smile and laugh right along with the people reading them."
